I will call my mom on Sunday morning and ask her “Who’s playing in the Super Bowl, mom?”
If she can name 1 of the teams, this Resolves 50%. If she can name both, this Resolves YES. I’m not counting “Taylor Swift’s boyfriend’s team” as a valid answer.
Factors that may impact your voting:
My mom lives in Philly and doesn’t follow sports at all. My dad does, and watched the championship games last weekend, when my mom was likely home.
If the Eagles were in the Super Bowl, I would say there would be a 90% chance that she would know that (just from following local news).
I, her only son, live in SF - notably one of the two answers.
My mom is not a Swiftie and doesn’t care about pop music.
She got the 49ers right (by name), and knew Travis Kelce by name, but not KC or the Chiefs. Resolves 50%, and I’m very impressed.
She also was fine with doing this, I may do this again in the future!
Transcript, shared with my mother’s consent:
[me] Are you ready.
[mom] Yes
[me] I’m taking a transcript of what we’re saying
[mom] Am I in trouble? Why do you need a transcript.
[me] I’ll tell you afterwards?
[me] Is dad home?
[mom] Yes. Is that ok.
[me] No.
[mom] He’s going somewhere else
[me] Ok, pretend that I’m on Who Wants to Win a Millionaire. I’m gonna ask you one question, answer to the best of your ability. No cheating whatsoever.
[mom] I have no device in front of me. I’m talking on a landline.
[me] Who is playing in the Super Bowl next weekend, mom?
[mom] Laughs, oh god. You have to be kidding. The team with Travis Kelce on it. Which is the um. I don’t know. That’s the answer.
[me] They’re saying 10 secs left. No final guesses.
[mom] I can see it in my brain. Somewhere in the midwest. Oh and San Francisco. But wherever Travis Kelce is on.
[me] For the record, do you know the SF team.
[mom] The San Francisco……. 49ers
[me] WOW!!!!
[mom] I’m not completely stupid. Football is really not my thing. I don’t give a hoot about the Super Bowl. I don’t bother my brain with unimportant information like that.

@mattyb Ha I think you can make the argument that she got both -- the team with Travis Kelce on it a notch above "Taylor Swift's BF"
@NathanBraun My mom would be thrilled by you suggesting this, but I was looking for the city or team name specifically (I’ll be clearer next time).
She’s historically thrown out random descriptors before which I also wouldn’t count (“they were definitely wearing red”) or knowing a single player like here. Like she’d know if Tom Brady were playing in a Super Bowl, but maybe not the team.
@shankypanky Yes, she doesn’t know any team names whatsoever, and neither of the cities have multiple teams. In a trivia round, the cities here would most likely be accepted.
@Lion I want to make this a bit harder for her. She follows news and not sports, so she’s definitely heard the Taylor Swift bit. Can she remember it’s linked to KC/Chiefs is the real question.
@Lion I’m gonna be so disappointed if she can’t even get SF. I’ll post as close to the full text of her answer as I can get.
@mattyb I believer in your mother. I don't care much about football and don't live in the US, but I know the answer. So your mother will know this as well.
