NO

I just found https://typst.app/

Will I write my next two papers with it? This excludes drafts that are about to be submitted because I am not gonna rewrite those.

I won't particapte in the market. I'll try to give updates in the comments.

I am interested in this new technology too !
How is this going ?

@dionisos Not great. I have been writing a paper but the journal required word (...) or latex files for submission. I haven't given up though.

@AlexbGoode I just realized I wrote 'my next two papers'. So this resolves no :(

predictedYES

@AlexbGoode Did you still tried it ?
If yes, do you think it is good ?

@dionisos I set up the environment and was playing around with it a little. I really liked it, but I didn't do any serious work with it :(

In what respect is this superior to overleaf?

@mariopasquato It's a nicer language, plausibly.

@mariopasquato From their website:

Why should I use Typst instead of LaTeX
Typst...

  • previews your changes instantly.

  • provides clear, understandable error messages.

  • has a consistent styling system for configuring everything from fonts and margins to the look of headings and lists.

  • uses familiar programming constructs instead of hard-to-understand macros.

All these points make it a very attractive alternative to me.

@AlexbGoode These seem to be persuasive; however, most modern editors support some form of realtime preview for LaTeX documents. I think LaTeX styling seems to be a bit verbose but I personally use snippets in emacs to bind commands to two key combinations. I'd highly suggest looking into a format like org mode or markdown and then exporting to LaTeX, since I think that that is more future proof. Some journals also might only take entrees in tex format but I'm not sure how representative that is. But overall, the product seems to look interesting but I think it'll be too much of an ecosystem change for me :)
