Resolution criteria
This market will resolve to "Yes" if any Colorado ski area officially opens at least one ski lift for public skiing or snowboarding for the 2025/2026 season before October 31, 2025, at 11:59 PM UTC. Otherwise, it will resolve to "No". The resolution will be determined by official announcements on the respective ski resort's website. Secondary verification sources may include reputable ski news outlets such as OnTheSnow or local Colorado news media.
Background
Colorado ski areas typically begin to open in the fall, with some resorts consistently vying for the earliest opening date. Arapahoe Basin and Loveland Ski Area are historically known for this competition. For the 2024-2025 season, Wolf Creek Ski Area was the first to open in Colorado, doing so on October 22nd. Many resorts announce their opening dates as "as soon as conditions allow," depending on natural snowfall and their snowmaking capabilities.
Considerations
An "opening" for the purpose of this market refers to the commencement of public ski lift operations for recreational skiing or snowboarding. This does not include private training sessions, media events, or activities solely related to snowmaking. Early season openings may involve limited terrain, often heavily supplemented by artificial snow.
