NO

Management of the arena has released a statement about search for a new partner: https://www.ftxarena.com/news/detail/miami-dade-county-and-miami-heat-statement-on-ftx

Please note, any definitive announcement about the name change would be sufficient to resolve to "YES", eg. "We are announcing, that it is no longer FTX Arena" or "From March, we can call it Binance Arena" or "the FTX Arena will now be known as the Miami Sports Arena until a new sponsor can be found" etc.

Should be resolved NO, this one.

Hearing taking place tomorrow for a Judge to consider allowing the name change — if they side in the Heat's favor, I think the announcement about the name change would come right away.

@TylerJohnston I'm not sure if he will, since they already received the money, and apparently spent it. In January, sure, because the current payment is until Dec 31.

"The mayor’s office also confirmed a $5.5 million payment is due at the beginning of January."

@mlsbft Exciting stuff. Current 55% seems reasonable all things considered.

@mlsbft I should've held my NO.

A couple days ago the Miami sports podcast Tobin & Leroy claimed that the stadium's interim name will be "The Heat's House". Announcement presumably coming soon, it's at the 2-minute mark here: https://www.audacy.com/podcasts/tobin-leroy-20279/new-name-for-the-heats-home-court-arena-marcos-delivers-a-variety-bag-1537167361. I see no reason to doubt these guys and the change should definitely happen this month

For now there is two bids for the naming right : one is from an adult movies company the other from a strip club. I'm not sure it would be a good idea to accept one of these.

These things always end up bureaucratic. Seems unlikely they'll be able to pull this off in 2 months.

What does count as renamed? Would it be nough if they put out a statement that they are renaming it and remove the name from the arena and other places? Or only once they have found a new sponsor?

@amoebus good question.

They released statement about looking for a new partner: https://www.ftxarena.com/news/detail/miami-dade-county-and-miami-heat-statement-on-ftx

I think any definitive announcement about the name would be sufficient, ie. "We are announcing, that it is no longer FTX Arena" or that "From March, we can call it Binance Arena"

@kolotom99 Would this resolve yes if they made the same announcement with a generic, non-sponsored name, i.e. "the FTX Arena will now be known as the Miami Sports Arena until a new sponsor can be found"

predicted NO

@MattReardon Yes, I would say we should resolve to "YES". Will add to the description.

@kolotom99 "From March, we can call it Binance Arena" it seems clear that such a statement means the rename date is 1st of March and not before.

predicted NO

@Zardoru That's what I mean. "Definite announcement" about renaming, even if the official rename happens after deadline, still would resolve to YES.

It took three months between when FTX had the name deal and when the arena was actually renamed from American Airlines Arena. I don't expect them to be much faster than three months this time.

Plus it would probably cost more to cancel unless someone else is coveting that arena for some reason.

Binance will keep the FTX brand in the US. It would be so dumb not to and they aren’t dumb.

@BTE I think the FTX brand could receive fatal damage.

Understatement detected.
