Currently there is a quest about trading "ancient", namely long inactive, market. But it seems there is no convenient way to find them.
Yes if it is implemented, or someone point out a user friendly way (like, without directly interacting with the API) by the deadline.
No otherwise.
https://manifold.markets/ancient is live! It now prioritises markets with no bets, more for technical reasons than anything else but it seems sensible enough.
@footgun My work hasn’t actually been merged yet! I’d wait to see whether it’s added to the site. /NcyRocks/will-my-pull-request-ancient-market
@NcyRocks As I understand it, it doesn't have to be officially added for this to resolve YES, as long as "someone points out a user-friendly way", it can resolve. This seems to be a user-friendly way to access ancient markets.
@footgun So it doesn't need to be merged, it just needs to still be up and running, right?
@footgun It might go down/stop working eventually if it's not merged, but I'd be surprised if it stopped working in a month.
@NcyRocks Very nice effort. I just test traded this market https://prod-git-fork-ncyrocks-ancientpage-mantic.vercel.app/SarahConstantin/will-modernas-mrna-vaccine-for-ebv and it was not removed from the page. How frequently does the page refresh currently?
@footgun It retrieves ancient markets automatically, so it’s instant except for the fact that page might cache results. Should work if you refresh, or open up a new tab?
Last try for me. The ancient market group is now updated once a day. You should be able to find a market in a few seconds. Don't click the first one...
Here is the link: https://manifold.markets/group/ancient-markets
@AlexbGoode I think this is very decent! It is fully automated right? Does it remove markets from the group once they are traded?
If might be frustrating for people if this is only updated once a day.
@Austin Are you guys going to ship this? It seems that at least a handful of people would found it helpful.
@AlexbGoode That group includes lots of markets which aren't ancient markets by the definition of the quest (markets that no one else has bet on in the past three months). The top market in your screenshot has dozens of trades in the past week!
@SimonGrayson yeah, I think manifold made a recent change so only market creators can change the group of a market. Now the bot can't do it's anymore. It's still better than randomly scrolling through markets
@AlexbGoode Thanks for the tips! Sadly I think this is not elegant enough to resolve this market to “Yes”, since new markets won’t be added to this group as you mentioned.
@footgun it is a way without directly interacting with the API. Anyway, if I would sent you a list of links with all ancient markets as of now would you resolve to YES?
@AlexbGoode No, however, if you submit a pull request to the codebase with this feature and it got merged that would be a Yes I think! BTW I am putting money on No not because I believe it is going to be No. Just want to incentivise people to find a way.
@footgun I was thinking the same - if someone has an ongoing way of finding ancient markets easily (rather than a one off list) that’s worth losing money on this market to achieve the quest every week!
