I'm a first-year undergrad math major. My home institution is R1 with an ok grad program, not known for churning out strong undergrads. My coursework so far includes abstract algebra 1&2, real analysis 1&2, 1 cs/math class (all undergrad) and 1 grad cs/math class. I think I have pretty decent letters. I did a math REU last summer (got in because I knew the people who were running it and they needed a participant last minute.) My research group presented our results at two conferences but didn't write a paper.

This year I applied to 12 math REUs, at least four of which I am definitely not going to get into. One of the REUs I applied to is at my home institution, but I didn't talk to any of the faculty running the projects, oh well :( .

I submitted most applications the day before the deadline.

This market will resolve as yes if I get into at least one of the REUs I applied to.
