The Bold Prediction from JJ Zachariason: Chase Edmonds Will Be a Top-15 Running Back

Why This Is Bold: Chase Edmonds has seen his average draft position rise of late, but it's still not close to the top-15 at the position.
Why This Will Happen: Edmonds played the first 10 snaps of Miami's second preseason game this past weekend, and he should have the receiving role locked up in that backfield.

And he's an underrated runner.

Last season, among 50 running backs with 100 or more carries, Edmonds was 4th in percentage of runs that went 10 or more yards and 17th in percentage of runs that went 20-plus yards. He also was second in yards per carry minus his running back teammates' yards per carry within that same subset. To put that another way, he significantly outperformed James Conner in yards per attempt.

After seeing target share per game rates of 13.2% and 12.3% over the last two seasons, we should feel good about him having a receiving role in this new-look Miami Dolphins offense. He also received a lucrative contract this offseason, which should make us feel at least a little more confident that they'll use him quite a bit.

At the end of the day, bold predictions are just looking at either side of some range of outcomes. For a bold prediction to come true for a player, he’s likely either hitting his floor, or he’s hitting his ceiling. So you can still get mathematical and nerdy when putting together these wacky forecasts. You don’t need to throw random takes at the wall and hope some of them stick.
