Ongoing: Chapters are being published on a regular schedule, or the manga is on a short planned hiatus with a definite end date (≤ 4 months).

Finished normally: The narrative reached a planned conclusion. If there is a sequel or spin-off, the original still counts as finished.

Finished prematurely: The manga needed to end for some external reason and we got a few rushed chapters to wrap it up.

Hiatus: The manga was announced to be on an indefinite hiatus, or on a definite hiatus for longer than 4 months.

Cancelled: The latest chapter wasn't meant to be the last but the manga got cancelled and there will be no more. There doesn't need to be an explicit cancellation announcement as long as it's obvious that it's over (e.g. authors have publically said they've moved on).
