Resolution criteria

Michael Carrick was appointed Manchester United head coach on 13 January 2026 until the end of the 2025–26 season. This market resolves YES if Carrick is appointed as Manchester United's permanent manager (beyond the end of the current season) by June 11, 2026. Resolution will be determined by official announcement from Manchester United. The market resolves NO if another manager is appointed or if Carrick's contract is not extended beyond June 12, 2026.

Background

Carrick was sacked by Middlesbrough on 4 June 2025 following a tenth-placed finish. Since taking over in mid-January, Carrick has steered the Red Devils to seven wins, one draw, and just one defeat in nine Premier League outings, collecting 22 out of a possible 27 points and transforming them from seventh-place outsiders into the favorites for a Champions League spot. Carrick is the bookmaker's favourite to be United manager at the start of next season, followed by Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner.

Considerations

When pressed on whether Carrick could be handed the role on a long-term basis, United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe responded: "Not going there". There is no rush internally to hand him a longer contract, despite his strong performance. The decision on Carrick's permanent appointment will likely depend on whether United secures Champions League qualification and the club's assessment of alternative managerial candidates.
