I measured several times (after making sure I don't remember what result I got last month to avoid anchoring) and got... 38.5 ± 0.5 inches. So the difference is between -1 and +1 inches 😆

It was really hard to resist the temptation to collect some more data after I saw that there was no significant difference. If anyone reading this wants to replicate this experiment, you might want to preregister your measurement protocol in your market's description or comments.
