The IAEA and partners are trying again to get nuclear on the agenda at COP28.

But has the global climate finally warmed up to the Nuclear Political Football in 2023?

Will there be a binding agreement from the international community to implement the IAEA's proposal to triple world nuclear power output by 2050?

It's a YES/NO answer and it will resolve as such once the conference reaches its conclusion in mid-December.

"...while COP28 did not specifically mandate the IAEA's initiative to triple global nuclear output by 2050, it significantly acknowledged and supported the expansion of nuclear energy as a key part of the solution for deep decarbonization."

This could have been two markets it seems, happy with the actions agreed to be pursued globally anyway.

Will there be a binding agreement from the international community to implement the IAEA's proposal to triple world nuclear power output by 2050?

“Nuclear energy made a big splash at the COP 28 climate meeting in Dubai with a declaration by 22 countries calling for a tripling of nuclear energy by 2050.”

Resolves NO. There is no binding language that comes out of COP, despite an agreement to triple nuclear by 2050.

@mattyb Kyoto was legally binding, not just binding, this is worth looking into. You might be wrong or maybe I was in the description. Not buying despite the success. Will get back

Hey @Paul7bbc will you be attending COP28? I'll be there this year.

@BenjaminShindel nope, just seemed the best question I could generate at the time

@benshindel what do you recommend attending the next days? Anything regarding circular economy would really interest me

My first question, I won't participate. If there's anything missing, let me know.
