Resolution Criteria

This market resolves to YES if "The Moon" (or a direct linguistic equivalent such as "Luna" or "Lunar") becomes a selectable option within the geographic location filtering interface of Google Trends (accessible at trends.google.com or its official successor domain) at any point before December 31, 2027, at 11:59 PM UTC.

The market resolves to NO if, by the aforementioned deadline, no such geographic filter option has been implemented.

Additional Resolution Rules:

  • Geographic Filter vs. Search Term: To qualify for a YES resolution, "The Moon" must be added as a selectable location boundary dimension (i.e., alongside regions, countries, states, or cities to filter where search volume originates). Simply being able to type "The Moon" into the search box as a search topic or query does not qualify.

  • Permanence: The addition must be an official platform feature or a permanent infrastructure update. Temporary holiday features, limited-run promotional events, or documented April Fools' Day pranks lasting fewer than 48 hours will not trigger a YES resolution.

  • Source Material: Resolution will be determined by primary sources, including official Google product documentation, press releases from Google/Alphabet corporate, or undisputed, verifiable live-UI screen recordings from multiple independent market participants.

Background

In May 2026, SpaceX's Starlink team officially announced it is actively developing interplanetary gigabit laser communications technology designed to establish high-speed internet infrastructure across the surface of the Moon, connecting future lunar rovers, habitats, and astronauts.

As commercial and scientific infrastructure expands beyond Earth, digital services will eventually face the challenge of tracking off-world user telemetry. Currently, Google Trends allows users to segment and analyze global search interest data, but its geographic filters are strictly bounded by terrestrial geopolitical borders (countries, subregions, and metros). This market bets on whether Google will expand its regional analytics dashboard to include lunar tracking data before 2028.
