Purely looking at total count, the U.S. has the most medals at 2980. There is a pretty significant difference from the second placed United Kingdom with 948 gold medals, followed by Germany with 892. Now let's see if this significant difference will also reflect in the ranking by year. The US have received the most medals (i.e. first place) in 18 Olympics, the 2nd place in 8, and the 3rd in 2. The only other country with multiple first places is the Soviet Union, which no longer exists. China was the most recent first place winner, and that was in the 2008 Beijing Olympics which they hosted. Therefore, it is safe to assume that the US will again take first place in the 2024 Summer Olympics.
