Resolution criteria
This market will resolve to the date on which the alpine section of the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park is officially opened to vehicle traffic for the summer season.
The primary source for this resolution is the official "Current Conditions" page maintained by the National Park Service (NPS) at https://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/conditions.htm. If the road opens in stages, the market will resolve to the date the full road is opened for through-traffic to vehicles. If official NPS documentation provides a specific date of "full opening," that date shall be used.
Background
The Going-to-the-Sun Road is a 50-mile engineering feat that crosses the Continental Divide at Logan Pass. Due to heavy snowfall and the risk of avalanches, the high alpine portion of the road is closed to vehicles throughout the winter and spring.
There is no fixed annual opening date; the road's opening depends entirely on snowpack conditions, the progress of plowing crews, and spring weather. While lower elevations of the road remain open year-round, the alpine section typically opens between mid-June and early July. Because opening is highly dependent on unpredictable weather, it is impossible to set an exact date far in advance. The National Park Service publishes real-time updates on plowing status and road conditions on their website as the season progresses.
