538's 2024 election forecast is an election prediction model which was suspended on July 21st when Joe Biden dropped out of the race, with 538 making the statement "We will publish an election forecast including the new presumptive Democratic nominee, when such nominee is announced." Kamala Harris became the presumptive nominee fairly soon (538 itself started publishing Presidential polling averages with her as the Democratic candidate on July 24th; it was announced she'd won a majority of the DNC delegate vote on August 2nd), but 538 still hasn't published a Harris vs. Trump election forecast.
The Last Dangerous Visions is a speculative fiction anthology that was announced in 1973. Announcements that it would publish soon were a regular feature in the 1970s and 1980s science fiction press. Harlan Ellison, the anthology's editor, died in 2018, the book unpublished. His estate's executor has been pushing the book toward publication.
So, a simple question; will a 538 forecast featuring the Harris vs. Trump race publish before the release of a book that made Duke Nukem Forever look like a model of timely development and publication?
(The close date for this question is currently set for the day before the announced release date for The Last Dangerous Visions. As usual, I will not bet on my own market.)
