Background

AP (Advanced Placement) exams are graded on a scale from 1 to 5, with a 5 indicating that a student is "extremely well qualified" for college-level credit.

While the creator notes being more STEM-oriented, the difficulty of scoring a 5 varies significantly across these subjects. According to the College Board's official score distributions for 2025, the percentage of students who earned a score of 5 on each exam was as follows:

  • AP Calculus AB: 20.3% of test-takers scored a 5

  • AP Chemistry: 17.9% of test-takers scored a 5

  • AP World History: Modern: 11.9% of test-takers scored a 5

  • AP Computer Science Principles: 10.7% of test-takers scored a 5
