It had potential. I love seeing these characters well-animated and voice acted. But they really, really need to slow down the pacing. Everything that’s good about homestuck — especially the early parts — benefit from having time to breathe, including the dialogue, jokes nerdy small-scale environmental world building (stuff in characters’ rooms etc), nerdy complicated game mechanics, sense of mystery and the storytelling gimmicks.
It really felt like some of those brain rot videos where you have a family guy clip, subway surfer, slime cutting and so on side by side playing simultaneously. Is there any reason setting up the mystery of Rose’s side of the story has to happen split-screen with a John joke? I don’t think there’s a single second outside of the fight scene that doesn’t have 2-3 things from the comic happening at once, like that.
I’m especially disappointed by not doing the haunting-but-also-ironically-pretentious title drop of the original but instead just plowing straight through!
