This market resolves Yes if the following criteria are met. If the below criteria are not met, it resolves No.
Criteria:
I meditate for a minimum of 10 minutes daily, beginning no later than 04MAR2024.
I continue to meditate for at least 10 minutes, at least 6 out of 7 days a week, for at least 7 of the 8 weeks following the start date.
General Information:
I define a week as Monday through Sunday
I use Pacific Time.
I expect my meditation practice to be recorded by commenting as such (or editing an existing comment) daily.
Notes:
I reserve the right to record it in an easier (but still contemporaneous and publicly accessible) format. Changing the recording format does not alter the record for any prior days.
I reserve the right to modify the resolution criteria above, provided that any changes adhere to the spirit of the market (e.g., am I consistently engaging in meditation to improve my mental well-being?). Any modifications to the criteria will not affect records for any prior days.
Should I alter the resolution criteria or bet in this market (which I plan to do), anyone who has wagered more than 3% of their net worth (at the time of resolution) or Ṁ1000 has the right to request a moderator re-resolution, assuming the request is made in good faith.
As context: I have not attempted meditating in something close to a serious fashion before. I did some mild reading on it about 6-8 years ago and briefly tried to incorporate it, but I cannot remember much of the experience so doubt I got very far.
Nevertheless, I've heard/read that it is beneficial! I'd like to make a good faith attempt! I'm not sure how I will meditate yet, but my current plan is to read an assortment of less-wrong posts on it and take what I like. If people have better suggestions than that I'm all ears.
@RobertCousineau I just did the first meditation on wakingup.com (a breathing exercise). It was briefly an interesting/enjoyable feeling (when I was able to focus on my breathing and sensation in my chest/not have other thoughts, but two breaths later I was having a lot of thoughts).
@RobertCousineau I did the second meditation today - it was a breathing exercise/further noticing of body and sensations. My experience was quite similar to yesterday.
@RobertCousineau I meditated in 2 five minute intervals today. I did not find as much benefit doing it that way.
@RobertCousineau I missed yesterday but did day three today. It was focused on a broader set of bodily sensation, the idea that we don't have an internal physical model of ourselves.(e.g. feeling is a cloud, not body shaped), and a reminder to for a moment experience feeling at some point today.
Edit, 08MAR: did day 4 today. It talked about noticing sound.
Edit, 09MAR: did day 5 today. I had a lot of trouble paying attention (more than any of the previous times). Lots of movement and thought.
Edit, 10MAR: did day 6 today. It went decently. I had two drinks this evening. I felt like I started easier, but had a more difficult last 3-5 minutes than normal.
@RobertCousineau I attempted to meditate for 10 min today, but was unable to hold a lack of thought. Quite restless. I woke up much to early this morning (03:00) which very likely caused the difficulty. I'll do day 7 again tomorrow.
@RobertCousineau I did not meditate for 10 min today (got in 5 min randomly, unguided). I shall be doing this before noon tomorrow or it doesn't count.
