Justin Bieber was recently diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-61767457 Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is a complication of the reactivation of the virus that causes chickenpox and shingles (Varicella Zoster Virus, or VZV). The diagnosis usually requires the triad of: 1) ipsilateral facial paralysis (paralysis on the same side that the rash appears) 2) ear pain 3) vesicles (fluid filled blisters) in the ear canal. Altered taste perception, tongue blisters, hearing abnormalities (decreased hearing, or sometimes uncomfortably increased hearing, ringing) and tearing occur in some people too. Only up to 75% of patients recover complete functionality of the nerves responsible for these symptoms, and those who are treated (antivirals, and steroids such as prednisone) earlier tend to have a higher chance of complete recovery. It is unclear whether Justin Bieber received early/prompt treatment. We will resolve this market within 9 months should Justin Bieber post a picture/video showing complete use of his facial muscles, or perhaps appear in another live show.
