Resolution criteria
This market will resolve to YES if more than 7 Robot Substitutes are used in any official FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) matches played today, July 26, 2026.
For the purposes of this market, "Robot Substitutes" is defined as any of the following:
A team's robot acting as a "surrogate" in a qualification match where they are randomly scheduled by the event software to play an extra match that does not count toward their own standings.
A backup robot or substitute team called in to replace a no-show or disqualified team in a match.
If "Robot Substitutes" is the name of a specific participating team, the market will resolve YES if that team plays in more than 7 matches today.
This market will resolve to NO if 7 or fewer such substitutions or surrogate match plays occur.
The primary source of truth for match listings, surrogate markers, and results is the FIRST Tech Challenge Events Portal.
Background
In FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) tournament play, when the number of attending teams is not evenly divisible by four, the matchmaking software schedules "Surrogate Matches". During these matches, a scheduled team's robot acts as a substitute so that all alliances have the necessary number of active robots on the field. While these extra matches are critical to the tournament's overall schedule, they do not award ranking or tiebreaker points to the substituting team.
