Background
The match will commemorate the first-ever Test, played between Australia and England in Melbourne in 1877. The 150th Anniversary Test will unfold under lights for the first time, making it the first men's day-night Test at the MCG. Joe Root recently scored his 41st Test century, joining Ricky Ponting in third place on the all-time century list.
Considerations
Test cricket outcomes are inherently uncertain due to weather, pitch conditions, and player form. An Anniversary Test Match hasn't taken place since the Centenary Test in 1977, which mirrored the original Test Match in 1877, making this a historically rare event. Player availability may change between now and March 2027.
