Romantic obsession in this sense is not the same thing as love, love can exist without romantic obsession. Romantic obsession is a powerful state of being unable to stop thinking about somebody in a romantic way. Intrusive thoughts, constant daydreaming and obsessing over whether one's feelings are reciprocated are all common in romantic obsession. Romantic obsession is also sometimes called limerence.
