Resolution criteria
This market will resolve to YES if there is credible public reporting (such as from ESPN, The Athletic, L'Équipe, or Wembanyama's official social media channels) during the 2026 NBA offseason (from June 14, 2026, through the first game of the 2026-27 NBA regular season in October 2026) that Victor Wembanyama participated in a non-traditional, unconventional "training arc" or specialized training program outside of basketball.
To qualify for a YES resolution, the training program must meet at least one of the following criteria:
Participation in training sessions, practice, or camps with a professional team or athletes in another sport (e.g., a rugby team, soccer club, etc.).
Immersive training at a specialized spiritual or physical retreat, temple, or non-basketball martial arts academy (similar to his prior Shaolin temple experience).
Documented, intensive training in an entirely non-basketball discipline aimed at physical or mental evolution.
Standard NBA offseason activities do not qualify for a YES resolution. These include:
Standard strength, weightlifting, and cardio conditioning workouts.
Playing in standard pickup games or private runs with other NBA players.
Workouts with dedicated basketball skill trainers or coaches (such as potential training sessions with Dirk Nowitzki, Hakeem Olajuwon, or team staff).
If no credible reports of a qualified non-traditional training program emerge by the official start of the 2026-27 NBA regular season, the market will resolve to NO.
Background
During the 2025 offseason, Victor Wembanyama engaged in a highly publicized, unconventional "training arc". Seeking to regain control of his body and mind following a blood clot that cut his previous season short, Wembanyama traveled to a Shaolin temple in Zhengzhou, China, to train in kung fu and meditation with Shaolin monks.
In an April 2026 interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Wembanyama expressed a desire to continue this philosophy of physical evolution. He noted that his next bucket-list goal was to train with a professional rugby team to master contact and movement patterns that standard basketball training cannot replicate. This market tracks whether he embarks on another such non-traditional training journey during the summer of 2026.
