NO

It looks like we are getting a HUGE balance patch in the near future. It is open to players as a Community Balance Patch Mod. An official representative post is https://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/15y47y3/competitive_mappool_balance_update_test_september/, he linked to https://rentry.co/5012balancetest, the thing that interests me is the changes to the Cyclone:

Auto attack range increased from 5 to 6

Lock On cooldown removed

Lock On no longer has a delay before first shot, and maintains weapon cooldown between lock ons

Lock On cast range reduced from 7 to 6

Lock On max range reduced from 15 to 9

Multiple Cyclones will now auto-cast Lock On onto the same target

My hobby horse is pointing out at the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanchester%27s_laws#Lanchester's_square_law as the reason SC2 sucked at first and improved over time.

These Cyclone changes make it very similar to https://liquipedia.net/starcraft2/Warhound which was a unit that followed the Lanchester square law better than the Marine, so it was nerfed and nerfed and then scrapped because it was pointless in small numbers and overwhelming in large numbers. I don't see anything that would prevent the Cyclone from getting balanced along the same trajectory.

I will resolve this as "yes" if we get the old Cyclone with small changes instead of the new Cyclone with more changes. I don't expect this to be controversial, if the new Cyclone gets changed into the old one everyone would call it out.

Hopefully the final patch hits before the New Year.

TIL about Lanchester's square law! Sorry I missed this market while it was open, you seem to have a good analysis!

predicted YES

@Nikos I was wrong in the end though, and not just because Blizzard didn't do it but because mass cyclones didn't end up being such a big problem. I guess they are just a bit too bulky and too easily countered by marauders/immortals/zerglings and tanks and... So they still have a support role, anti-air especially, but that's it.

@NameSurname Fascinating! I hope I never get put in charge of balancing a game like that. Seems impossible!
