Nintendo recently released a new set of guidelines for tournament organizers. Among them:

"Pirated or modified versions of Nintendo Games must not be used."

The competitive Super Smash Bros Melee community had adopted the use of a software modification called UCF (Universal Controller Fix), which fixes a common anti-competitive element of the game. UCF is universally regarded as an unambiguous improvement to the game, and all major tournaments run it because players would be incensed otherwise. However, Nintendo has previously refused to sponsor or be affiliated with tournaments that modify the game, and so organizers have used a "stealth" version of the mod that is imperceptible to the viewer.

Resolves as YES if a majority of major tournaments in 2024 elect to forgo running UCF or if, at the end of 2024, the consensus opinion among community organizers is that major tournaments can no longer run UCF going forward.

Resolves as N/A if Nintendo reneges on their guidelines in such a way that the community would have no cause to change their current practices.

Resolves as NO otherwise.

I bet they could run UCF in such a way that it wouldn't be visible to watching the stream and they'd have plausible deniability. Or maybe not, I'm not an expert.

@asmith Yes, that is what they do currently. If business continues as usual, this will resolve as NO.
