San Francisco's last permanent police chief, Bill Scott, left the agency in May 2025. The Police Commission is currently conducting a search and will put three names forward to Mayor Daniel Lurie, who will make the final decision. This market will resolve to the person who becomes selected as the long-term chief of police. Currently, Paul Yep is interim Chief of Police and is considered a candidate. Other names include deputy chiefs Derrick Jackson and Derrick Lew.

The close date may change, depending on how long the search and selection takes.
