The League of Legends World Championship (Worlds) is the most prestigious tournament in the esports scene, where the best teams from different regions compete for the ultimate glory. In 2023, the tournament will be held in South Korea, the birthplace of esports and home of the LCK, one of the strongest leagues in the world. The West, which includes Europe, North America, and Latin America, has historically struggled to match the level of the East, which includes China, Korea, and Southeast Asia. However, in recent years, some Western teams have shown signs of improvement and have reached the semifinals or even the finals of Worlds. For example, in 2018, Fnatic from Europe reached the finals and lost to Invictus Gaming from China. In 2019, G2 Esports from Europe reached the finals and lost to FunPlus Phoenix from China. In 2020, no Western team reached the semifinals, as they were all eliminated by Eastern teams in the quarterfinals. In 2021, MAD Lions from Europe reached the semifinals and lost to DAMWON Gaming from Korea. In 2022, Rogue from Europe was the only Western team to reach the quarterfinals, but they lost to JD Gaming from China.
This market is about predicting whether a team from the West will reach the semifinals of Worlds 2023. The outcome will be determined by the official results of the tournament published by Riot Games, the developer and organizer of League of Legends. The market will resolve as YES if at least one team from Europe, North America, or Latin America reaches the semifinals of Worlds 2023. The market will resolve as NO if no team from these regions reaches the semifinals of Worlds 2023. The market will be voided if Worlds 2023 is cancelled or postponed for any reason.

@Fedor Sad :( Hope the West manages to come back in the next few years otherwise I see darkness for this game here.
C9 and MAD, two Western teams now eliminated as well.
The last time a Western (or a non-Korea, non-China) team made it to the semifinals was in 2020 when G2 participated in the semifinals. In the previous decade, there are only 9 Western teams made it to the semifinals out of an overall 40 chances. Moreover, at this point (Oct 23rd), there are already 2 Western teams that got eliminated. Under the pressure that there are 4 teams from Korea and China, a total of 8 teams as strong competitors. Therefore, I think it is a NO for this market.
@Jakob They are looking very good! They'll surely make it to the round of 8, though semi's is a lot harder.
@Fedor Will all be found under the group for worlds 2023 https://manifold.markets/browse?topic=lol-worlds-2023&t=
Considering how western teams have always had a strong start at worlds and the amount of times they had to go against each other (NA vs EU) in the knockouts and quarter finals the odds of them making it to semis this year is pretty much null, For example in Worlds 2022, NA started with the sliver of redemption during week 2, EU with the strong start but in the end collapsed. Western teams just wasn’t able to maintain their momentum. Considering the amount of underdogs in 2022, unscripted storylines and great team line ups, I believe that the semi finals will contain teams purely from Eastern regions (Korea and China obviously 💀💀)
The west regions have always been considered low-tier teams; in the last few World Championships, no team from the South American or North American region managed to go as far in the tournament, with the majority falling in the round of sixteen. Given that this year's World Championship will feature more tier 1 regions like Korea and China, I believe the semi-finals will consist solely of teams from this region.
