With the recent changes in pitching strategy league-wide, especially concerning bullpens, the era of complete game pitchers has all but come to an end.
Teams opt to begin utilizing their bullpen as early as the 5th inning, in some cases denying the starting pitcher the opportunity to earn a decision on the game he starts. Only in rare occasions where no-hitters or perfect games are on the line will players and fans alike see starters working into the 9th inning.
Setting this up amid the 2025 postseason where some starters have been pulled after 3 innings pitched, so I’m curious how many pitchers overall will average 6.2 IP over 30 starts next season. Hope to see you there.
Edit to add: The IP hundreds stat must start with a 2. This market will not round 199.2 IP up.
