YES

Sam Walton thought it was important for all associates to be able to buy single shares at a reasonable cost. That's the reason Walmart gave for the 3-for-1 split they did Monday, Feb 26, following the announcement made January 30.

Resolves Yes if stock price/trading volume is up from 2/26, news is generally positive about Walmart's future or they do something major like an Innovation

Resolves No if Walmart's future is looking stagnant or down. If the stock stays around 58-60 or drops and there is no positive news or they cause controversy.

What's the link between the event and shares value performance?

@RanaG Walmart offers a program called the Associate Stock Purchase Plan, which allows some employees to purchase shares of Walmart stock through payroll deductions at a reduced price. The split will make it easier to purchase whole shares for employees. The narrative is if they own shares they will work harder. Low price per share can also entice other investors. Increased accessibility can result in an increase in demand especially if the company had been doing well before the split such as Walmart.

Typically companies don't split when things are going poorly, instead they split when they expect things to be on the up swing. It's not that obvious that the split happened because, "things are going well." Could be they decided a stock split would result in harder working employees and it's as simple as that.

Based on most - not all, of their previous splits I expect unless something bad happens this will most likely resolve Yes. That being said this was the first split they did in over 20 years.
