Resolution criteria

The market resolves YES if Time magazine names a Person of the Year for 2025 whose primary significance is related to war, military conflict, or wartime leadership. (Trump’s peace efforts do not count). This includes military leaders, wartime political figures, or individuals whose year was defined by armed conflict. Resolution will be determined by Time's official announcement, available at https://time.com/person-of-the-year/.

Background

Time's Person of the Year is an annual selection of a person, group, idea, or object that "for better or for worse...has done the most to influence the events of the year." In 2022, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and "the spirit of Ukraine" were named Person of the Year, demonstrating that war-related figures can receive the honor. The 2024 shortlist included Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, Kate Middleton, Elon Musk and Benjamin Netanyahu, with Netanyahu being a wartime leader involved in the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Considerations

Time does not hold a reader poll for Person of the Year selection, so the choice is made solely by Time editors based on their assessment of influence and impact. The designation is not necessarily an honor—controversial figures such as Adolf Hitler (1938) and Joseph Stalin (1939 and 1942) have been granted the title for their impact on events.
