1. The video is legit: in this case some paper or follow up will reveal who made it conclusively
2. The video is not legit: no or limited information will be forthcoming from the people who made the video as to who made it

I'd like to wait for the possibility of a more conclusive (1). If by market close (Aug 12) this is the best evidence we have, it is probably compelling enough to resolve NO.

My best grasp of this logic is that Chinese internet detectives found another video on the guy's account where he showed a drawing he made, which was signed with Zhang, and the tiger is... somehow related to the university and the replication attempts?

How many homonymous Zhang Xiang are expected in China? In Wuhan? Searching for 张翔 already reveals homonyms including one that might be the reason that person choose that name.
