To make things more interesting, I will reopen after the first and second comics to allow people to bet using this new information, as long as there are no questions regarding how one of the questions should resolve.

I will resolve any answers to these questions as soon as I have time to resolve and the result has become clear. If an answer is potentially ambiguous, I will wait to see thoughts posted on explain xkcd, and will either resolve or conclude N/A based on the possible consensus there.

Others are free to add options. I will delete duplicates and ask regarding resolution criteria for potentially vague options, or questions that I am not sure how to resolve. If you believe that there is potentially a vague option, feel free to comment so we can address the issue as early as possible.

I may bet in this market, but do not bet on questions about myself. On debatable questions, I will ask for trader input, and will put my reasoning once I come to a conclusion.

@traders In regards to the Cueball question, I have refunded losses on this market. I am sorry that there was a vague market. On future market creation this question will not be an issue.

BTW, my doubt about that definition has pretty much discouraged me from weighing in on that question!

I think of "appearance" as an occurrence in the comic, so if Cueball shows up 10 times in a comic, or chart, that is a single appearance. If he shows up once on Wednesday and 20 times on Friday, that is TWO appearances.

@JensFiederer In earlier cases, I've counted an "appearance" as a character in a comic which rightfully has claim to the name "Cueball". So, if there are two distinct characters in the same comic that both could be called Cueball, that is two appearances. The question I am dealing with here is whether or not the Cueballs in the image are distinct characters or just snapshots of the same Cueball on different modes of transport. I am inclined to say the latter.

@EBurk Also so inclined. In disagreement that there can be two Cueballs in the same comic, though, short of a Star Trek transporter or cloning scenario. Such scenarios challenge our whole concept of "identity".

@JensFiederer That's fair. In future market creation, I'll try to rephrase to be closer to what I have described.

@traders do we think that different copies of Cueball on the chart count as distinct characters?

I totally assumed they were FWIW.

Surely the rollerblading child Cueball counts as different than the adult bicycling Cueball!

@MugaSofer @Calibrate the rollerblading Cueball appears that they are squatting, not a child

If there is no Cueball on Friday, I will at least partially refund losses made on bets before this was an issue.

On a larger note, I will be rewording this one in the future.

Sorry -- I meant the child at the intersection of 2 wheels and 1.5 cm.
