I think the IDF has even come around to acknowledging the Gazan health ministry numbers are the best publicly available and not far off their internal estimates. Would have liked a fourth option for Russian military deaths.

Do they acknowledge it as an estimate for the whole number of casualties, or specifically for the number civilian casualties? I am not sure that Gazan health ministry can effectivily distinguish civilians and non-civilians.

@AVS I think both. And I think you have it backwards, the Gazan health ministry is run by Hamas, so obviously they know who is a civilian and who isn't. If anything its Israel that is acknowledging they can't tell the difference, and many of the political leaders have been very open with their opinion that there is no such thing as an innocent Palestinian civilian, including President Herzog.

@BTE if it is run by Hamas, then this number should be considered as even less reliable, or am I missing something?

@AVS

I am not sure that Gazan health ministry can effectivily distinguish civilians and non-civilians.

They probably can, they just don't. It's a pity @BTE failed to mention it in his reply.

None of these, but of the three, Palestinian. (I think at this point we have a very good handle on the Israeli casualty number and if anything it might go up slightly, and we're certainly undercounting Ukrainian casualties. So if we have error bars around Palestinian casualty estimates that dip below the current figures then by elimination it has to be them.)
