Cardinal Christophe Pierre is the Apostolic Nuncio (aka ambassador of the Holy See) to the United States. He is known as being a defender of Pope Francis, and has rankled some feathers by, for example, giving an interview where he "accused the [US] bishops of failing to evangelize and to embrace a model of synodality for the Church."
He is now 77 years old, older than the standard retirement age of 75 for Catholic bishops, and in a recent podcast episode of The Pillar, a US news website about the Catholic Church, one host predicted he would no longer be an apostolic nuncio to the United States by the end of 2024, perhaps after the conclusion of the Eucharistic Congress.
Will he be apostolic nuncio at the end of 2024? Resolves based on whether he is or not at 11:59 pm December 31 2024 Pacific Time.
