Destin from SmarterEveryDay recently released a fish tank simulator game (see the website and the announcement video).
It seems... out of character? Off? A little odd? He's never done video game stuff before (to the best of my knowledge).
It's not clear what he's contributed to the game besides being a well known internet figure who can effectively advertise the game.
Early steam reviews are mostly positive but note it still feels like early access, and doesn't feel worth $20.
All this is to say that something feels like it could be brewing, but it's most likely nothing.
This market will resolve YES if, before midnight on the 31st December 2024, some significant tomfoolery or scheme is found behind the development of fish game.
This market will resolve NO if no scandal is found, or if the scandal is only found after the 31st December 2024.
Exactly what constitutes a scandal will be my personal judgement, but the following list would be considered a scandal by me:
The game code or IP was taken from some other developers who aren't part of the team.
The game turns out largely to be a money-grab, with microtransactions or other elements generally considered to be harmful for gameplay but good for profits. The price of the game going up/down/remaining the same will NOT be considered a scandal.
Other underhand activity whereby the team behind Fish Game try to "trick" players into playing the game, or whereby the installation numbers/success surrounding Fish Game are misconstrued for some purpose.
There's nothing specific which seems to be amiss with Fish Game, but Destin's incentives don't seem to be fully aligned with spending 4 years making a game about keeping low poly fish, so this market will adjust for that.
