Resolution criteria

This market predicts who will be appointed as the next permanent manager/head coach of the Scotland men's national football team.

  • YES Resolution: The candidate who is officially announced by the Scottish Football Association (SFA) as the permanent head coach/manager will resolve to YES.

  • NO Resolution: All other listed candidates will resolve to NO once a different permanent manager is officially appointed.

  • Interim/Caretaker Managers: Interim, caretaker, or temporary appointments do not count for resolution. The market will remain open until a permanent appointment is officially announced. If an interim manager is later named the permanent manager, they will resolve to YES at the time of the permanent announcement.

  • Source of Truth: Official press releases from the Scottish Football Association. In the absence of an immediate update on the official site, reputable sports journalism outlets (such as BBC Sport or Sky Sports) will be used to confirm the official SFA announcement.

Background

On June 27, 2026, Steve Clarke resigned as head coach of the Scotland national football team. His departure came immediately after Scotland’s elimination from the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup was mathematically confirmed. While Scotland opened their campaign with a 1–0 victory over Haiti, back-to-back defeats to Morocco (1–0) and Brazil (3–0) left them third in Group C. Their exit was finalized following Croatia’s 2–1 victory over Ghana, leaving Scotland unable to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.

Clarke had led Scotland since 2019, guiding the team to Euro 2020, Euro 2024, and the 2026 World Cup—their first World Cup finals appearance in 28 years. Despite signing a contract extension through 2030 just a month before the tournament, he chose to step down following the group-stage exit.

The SFA is now searching for a permanent successor to lead the squad into the UEFA Nations League campaign commencing in September 2026, as well as qualification for Euro 2028.
