A note for people who don't pay close attention to the description - this is actually a conditional question, despite the title not being worded as such.

Does any political-appointee role count, even if it lower-ranking than some others? e.g. a deputy secretary role? I assume it counts based on the description, but it would be good to get confirmation.

@zzq A Deputy Secretary is an executive branch official nominated by the president, meeting the 'yes' criteria. I've clarified the description to remove ambiguity. Let me know if there's any other position you're unsure about.
