Background

The top three teams from the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup final tournament (China, South Korea and Japan) secured automatic qualification, along with Australia as the host nation. China is the most successful nation, winning the tournament nine times, including a run of seven straight victories, and are the current holders, having won in 2022. Japan won in 2014 and 2018, but lost the most recent competition in 2022 to China PR. Australia's only Asian Cup triumph came in 2010, beating North Korea on penalties. North Korea returns to the AFC Women's Asian Cup for the first time since 2010, while South Korea will be looking to claim their maiden AFC Women's Asian Cup title in 2026.
